New Delhi. In the recently held Rajya Sabha elections in Karnataka, the Congress party emerged victorious with three candidates winning, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured one seat. The election was mired in controversy when pro-Pakistan slogans were allegedly raised during the celebrations. During the Congress party’s victory celebrations, pro-Pakistan slogans were reportedly raised, leading to police action. According to police sources, a person from Haveri district has been detained in connection with the incident.
A prominent businessman of Haveri is accused of sloganeering
Police revealed that the detained person is a resident of Byadagi town of Haveri district. The accused is a prominent businessman involved in dry chilli business. He had come to Vidhana Soudha to celebrate the victory of Congress leader Syed Nasir Hussain in the Rajya Sabha elections. Based on voice samples, police suspect that the chilli trader had raised pro-Pakistan slogans. He has been brought to Bengaluru for further investigation. Vidhan Soudha police had registered a case against some unidentified people for allegedly raising anti-national slogans. BJP had also lodged a complaint with the police regarding the incident.
Assurance of action by Chief Minister
In response to the controversy, opposition leader R Ashok led a ‘march to Raj Bhavan’ along with BJP MLAs. He accused the Congress government of deteriorating law and order in the state and demanded its dismissal. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday assured that police have questioned seven people in connection with alleged pro-Pakistan sloganeering by supporters of Congress leader Syed Nasir Hussain. Siddaramaiah assured that strict action would be taken against those raising slogans based on evidence and that the state government had no intention of protecting anyone.

Haveri SP Anshukumar says, “On February 27, a case was registered at Vidhana Soudha police station for raising pro-Pakistan slogans in the Karnataka Assembly. “In this case, Bengaluru Police has detained a suspect, Mohammad Shafiq Nashipudi.”
