After the crushing defeat in Punjab, news of rift in Shiromani Akali Dal is also coming to the fore. Senior party leader and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee President Harmeet Singh Kalka has announced the formation of a separate Akali Dal. He said that the decision has been taken along with 26 other members. The party won the election of DSGMC with 27 out of 47 members.
After this announcement by Kalka, the SAD called a meeting and expelled him from the party. Apart from this, the Delhi unit of the party has been merged. Akali Dal vice-president Prem Singh Chandumajra said that till then former president Avtar Singh will take over the command of this unit.
Sarup Singh Sinhala, Akali Dal’s candidate and former MLA from Bathinda city in Punjab also resigned from the party.
