Lucknow. Young Shubman Gill, who came to captain the Indian Premier League 2024, started with a win but has suffered consecutive defeats in the last two matches. The captain of Gujarat Titans blamed his batsmen for the 33-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Sunday. He said that the wicket was good for batting.
After a half-century by all-rounder Marcus Stoinis (58 runs), thanks to the brilliant performance of Yash Thakur (five wickets for 30 runs), LSG registered its third consecutive win by defeating Gujarat Titans by 33 runs. This is also LSG’s first win over Gujarat Titans. Gill said after the match, “I think the wicket was good for batting but our batting was bad. We started well but lost wickets in the middle overs from which we could not recover.
Praising the performance of his bowlers, he said, “Our bowlers performed brilliantly and restricted them to this score. We were expecting 170-180 runs but the bowlers allowed us to score less than that. It was a wonderful effort. This target could have been achieved.
After Stoinis’ half-century, LSG scored 163 runs for five wickets with Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten inning of 32 runs. Gujarat Titans made a good start by adding 54 runs for the first wicket between Shubhman Gill (19 runs) and Sai Sudarshan (31 runs) but after losing consecutive wickets, the team was reduced to 130 runs in 18.5 overs.
