new Delhi. Dr Randeep Guleria’s tenure as Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences has been extended by three months. His current term as AIIMS Director ends on March 24.
An official communication from AIIMS said, “Dr Randeep Guleria was appointed as the Director of AIIMS New Delhi for a period of five years. He will complete his term on March 24, 2022.”
The official letter further read, “The Chairman AIIMS is pleased to extend his term with effect from 25.3.2022 for three months or till the appointment of a new Director, (whichever is earlier).”
A total of 32 top doctors from across the country have applied for the post of AIIMS Director, which includes 17 faculty members from the institute itself. The Head of the Department of Neurology, Dr. M.V. Dr. Nikhil Tandon, Professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology, Dr. Nikhil Tandon, and Dr. Rajesh Malhotra, Head of AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Dr Balram Bhargava, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is also among the 32 candidates. The term of the new director will be five years from the date of assuming office or till the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
