According to Mohapatra, there is a possibility of sudden floods due to heavy rains at high altitudes in the mountains. He said that since only 31 mm of rain was recorded in two hours, it would not be called a cloudburst. Cloudburst occurs when there is 100 mm or more of rain in an hour. At the same time, 65 people are still being treated in the hospital after this accident. The death toll has also increased to 16. Among the dead are 7 men and 6 women. 2 bodies are yet to be identified. More than 40 people are missing. Army, ITBP and NDRF along with Jammu and Kashmir Police have also been deployed to search for them.
Let us tell you that on Friday evening, when a crowd of people who had gone to visit the Amarnath cave had gathered, suddenly there was an influx from behind the temple. With the flood came debris and all the tents were washed away by it. The influx of devotees also took away with them. Most of the people died due to being buried under the rubble. Dog squads of Army and ITBP rescued the people trapped under the rubble. Due to which a large number of people could be saved. For the time being the journey has been stopped. According to sources, the yatra is expected to start once again by Monday or Tuesday.
