A Pakistani court has sentenced a man in Sindh province to 80 lashes for rejecting his daughter and falsely accusing his ex-wife of adultery. Additional District and Sessions Judge (Malir) Shahnaz Bohyo held Farid Qadir guilty of the crime of denying paternity of his daughter and making false allegations against his ex-wife, Dawn newspaper said in a report on Monday. The order clearly stated, ‘Whoever is responsible for Qazaf will be punished with 80 lashes.’ The court also ruled that after conviction, any evidence presented in the court by the accused will not be admissible in the court.

According to media reports, the ex-wife of accused Farid Qadir had filed a complaint in the court and said that they were married in February 2015. She lived with Farid for at least a month, and gave birth to a baby girl in December 2015. Accused Farid had denied the allegations made by his ex-wife and said that he had spent only six hours with his ex-wife, after which she left the house and never returned.
‘The accused is a liar’
“It is absolutely clear that the accused is a liar and has accused the complainant of kazaf (adultery) regarding the paternity of her daughter,” the court said in the order. The accused is therefore convicted and sentenced to 80 lashes under Section 7(1) of the Kazaf Ordinance, 1979. The punishment of 80 lashes was not seen in Pakistan since the era of Zia ul Haq in the 70s.
