Islamabad: As soon as Iran’s war with Israel broke out, two staunch enemies, Muslim friends, became friends. Whereas there was such fierce enmity between these two countries that recently they had carried out major air attacks on each other. These are none other than Iran and Pakistan. Not even a month had passed when both the countries had carried out a major airstrike in each other’s territory. Due to this, relations between the two countries reached a very dangerous situation. But after the war between Israel and Iran, these two countries have become friends again. The reason is clearly visible. Iran may need Pakistan’s help to compete with Israel. After all it is a nuclear armed country. Iran does not have nuclear bombs. Whereas Israel has a large stockpile of nuclear bombs.
After the war with Israel, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi made a sudden 3-day visit to Pakistan and again laid the foundation of friendship. Raisi returned home on Wednesday after completing his three-day maiden visit to Pakistan. During this, he had ‘fruitful talks’ with the country’s top leadership, including the Army Chief, to combat terrorism and strengthen bilateral trade relations. This was the first visit of a head of state to Pakistan after the February 8 general elections. The two sides signed eight MoUs, pledging to expand trade to US$10 billion in the coming years.
Industry ready to cooperate in science and technology
As much as Iran needs Pakistan in times of war with Israel, Pakistan also needs Iran in times of economic crisis. Therefore, both the countries have again taken steps towards friendship. Expressing commitment to remove trade barriers between the two neighboring countries, Raisi said that Tehran is ready to cooperate with Pakistan in industry, science and technology. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, fruitful talks took place between the two sides during the visit. Issuing a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “Both sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in many areas including trade, energy and strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.”
Both countries carried out air attacks on each other
Raisi’s visit to Pakistan came at a time when the two neighboring countries had carried out air strikes on alleged terrorist hideouts in each other’s areas three months ago. He notably held meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari and Army Chief General Asim Munir on security and economic issues. The two sides agreed to eliminate the threat of terrorism, which had caused a breakdown in their ties in January. Both countries expressed their support for the Palestinian people and demanded Israel to stop attacks on Gaza. The President of Iran was also awarded an honorary PhD degree by Karachi University.
