The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup Metropolitan has imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife Rinki Bhuyan. This action was taken against him for not appearing during the hearing of the Code of Conduct violation case in 2019.
Earlier, Kamrup Metropolitan Chief Judicial Magistrate AK Barua, in an order, had asked the duo to appear before the court on February 25. It is worth mentioning that in May 2019, the Additional Chief Electoral Officer had registered a case against Sarma.
The election officer had considered the interview given to Sarma to a private channel as a violation of the model code of conduct. The election department had registered a case against him on 10 April 2019 after receiving a complaint from the then president and general secretary of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.
