Bilaspur Forest News: Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director Achanakmar Tiger Reserve S Jagadishan while addressing the forest officials said that the issue of deforestation remains an important topic in the world as well as in India. Decreasing productivity of forests is a matter of concern at present, which can be achieved through tree improvement program. We have to choose quality species.
A one-day skill upgradation training program was organized for the field officers of the State Forest Department on “Variety Breeding Techniques of Forestry Trees” funded by Forest and Climate Change Department, Government of Chhattisgarh at Barrister Thakur Chhedilal Agricultural College and Research Centre, Bilaspur. Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director Achanakmar Tiger Reserve S Jagadeesan was present as the chief guest. Dr. RKS Tiwari, Dean of Agriculture College presided.
Dr. SL Swami, the nodal officer of the training program, told in his remarks that for the success of plantation in forestry, it is necessary to have technical knowledge for selection of species and knowledge of production methods. Our afforestation and reforestation program is failing due to lack of technical knowledge. Dean Dr. Tiwari said that the success of plantation depends on the quality of planting material. One of the main objectives of all the programs being run in the forestry sector is to increase the production capacity of the forests. To fulfill this purpose, it is very important to have good seedlings and technical knowledge to prepare good seedlings.
In the program, theoretical and practical training was given to the officers of the forest department at the level of Assistant Conservator of Forests, Forest Kshetrapal, Upvan Kshetrapal, Forester and Forest Guard level in various methods of annual breeding of forestry trees. In the training session, forestry scientist Ajit Williams gave information on layering or pressure grafting method on plant propagation by pen method. On this occasion, forest field officers of Bilaspur, Marwahi, Korba, Katghora Raigarh, Dharamjaygarh, Mungeli and Research Extension Unit Kota, Akaltara, Bilha were present in the training program along with senior professors Dr. RK Bisen, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma.
