When Nana came to India
This is the first time in a decade that a Foreign Minister of Pakistan is visiting India. In the year 2013, the then Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar had come to India. At that time Bilawal had also come to India for the first time, but then he had reached here only in the capacity of a politician. Bilawal Bhutto belongs to that political family of Pakistan which has a very deep connection with India. His maternal grandfather Zulfikar Ali Bhutto came to India in July 1972, seven months after the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Nana Zulfiqar came to India as the President of Pakistan. At that time Bilawal’s mother i.e. the country’s first woman Prime Minister Benazir had also reached India along with his father. Then Benazir was only 19 years old. However, Benazir could not come to Shimla due to some reasons.
Signed Shimla Agreement
Zulfikar had reached India for the historic Shimla Agreement with the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The Shimla Agreement is still seen in Pakistan as the deal in which the country was sold to India. However, people in India were also apprehensive about this agreement. This agreement was signed on July 2, 1972. Under this agreement, Pakistan officially recognized Bangladesh. Apart from this, there were five such points on which both the countries had agreed. There was only one point out of these. Forces will be pulled back on both sides of the international border.
Pakistan bowed before India
PR Chari, associated with the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, wrote in one of his articles, ‘India linked the withdrawal of its army from across the international border to the demarcation of the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. This was infuriating to Pakistan. It argued that the Simla Agreement had separate sections governing these different areas of the Indo-Pak border. But India was adamant on its stand and Pakistan had to bow down.
Pakistan occupied a part
According to this agreement, the identification of the LoC was difficult in places like Lippa Valley in the Tithwal sector. Some outposts were changed after the ceasefire came into force here. No talks with Pakistan could be successful on the Thako Chak issue. Pakistan had captured this salient in the Jammu sector. Part of it is on this side of the international border and the other side of the ceasefire line. According to the Shimla Agreement, this small portion was required to be divided between India and Pakistan. If it was a pointless thing for India, then it had become a question of nose for Pakistan.
Betrayed India
Pakistan has always violated the Shimla Agreement on the LoC. He did the same in the year 1999. On one hand the Lahore bus service was being started and on the other hand preparations were going on to stab India in the back. Terrorists were put on ceasefire posts. Bilawal himself has accepted that Pakistan has failed to raise the Kashmir issue at the international level. In such a situation, when he will be in Goa, the eyes of many people will also be focused on the statement coming from Pakistan on Kashmir.
