Chandigarh. The joyous birthday of a 10-year-old girl in Patiala turned into mourning when she died a day after allegedly eating a cake ordered online. Police said on Saturday that a case has been registered under sections 273 and 304-A of the IPC on the complaint of the girl’s family members. It has been alleged that the girl died after eating the birthday cake. Other members of the family also fell ill after eating the cake. A senior police officer said, “We are waiting for the viscera report to know the exact cause of death.”
A case has been registered against the bakery owner on charges of ‘causing death by negligence and supplying poisonous food’. The cake was ordered online on March 24 for the girl’s birthday celebration. When the health of the family members deteriorated, they received initial treatment, but the 10-year-old girl was declared dead by the doctors. The name and location of the bakery are unknown, but the victim’s family has called for a thorough investigation into its operations and the quality of its products.

The deceased’s grandfather told the media that the family had ordered the cake online on March 24 at around 6 pm. He said that ‘the whole family fell ill around 11 pm. Two younger daughters started vomiting. There were five people at home at that time. The youngest daughter’s life was saved because she vomited the cake, but we lost the other girl. The cake was ordered by the girl’s mother Kajal. In the copy of the bill, the address of ‘Cake Kanha’ registered in Patiala is mentioned, there is no shop of this name. Police suspect that the bakery is a cloud kitchen. Additionally, in another receipt challan from Zomato, the billing has been done from Amritsar and not from Patiala. However, the authenticity of the receipt issued by the food delivery app could not be confirmed.
