In the battle of Brahmin vs Brahmin, the candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is Surya Pratap Shahi, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Brahma Shankar Tripathi is in the fray.
The electoral battle here has also become interesting because both these giants have come face to face many times in the past. Sometimes Surya Pratap Shahi has won in this battle, and sometimes Brahma Shankar Tripathi has defeated him. The fight has also become interesting because the people here also believe that there will be a thorn in the two leaders. However, the voting on this seat will be completed on March 3 and the results will also be out on March 10.
Both the veterans have come face to face before
Shahi and Tripathi have been challenging each other in elections since 1985. In 1985, Shahi defeated Tripathi, who was contesting as an independent candidate, by 559 votes from Kasaya seat. After which Tripathi avenged this defeat in 1989 by becoming a candidate from Janata Dal Party and became MLA for the first time by defeating Shahi of BJP.
After this, Shahi again defeated Tripathi in 1991 during the mid-term elections. After this, Tripathi again defeated Shahi in 1993. After this, in 1996, Tripathi left the Janata Dal and joined the SP. After this, he defeated Shahi again in 2002 and 2007.

After delimitation, Pathardeva became an assembly constituency in 2012. From here Shahi came as a BJP candidate and Shakir Ali contested from SP. In which Shakir Ali won. However, after this again in 2017 Shahi defeated Ali. At the same time, after the death of Shakir Ali in 2022, his son Parvez Alam is contesting from the BSP on this seat. The Pathardeva assembly seat, which is dominated by Muslim voters, has a total of 3,35,755 voters.
