new Delhi . The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to take into custody NCP leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, Sanjeev Palande, Kundan Shinde and Sachin Waje in connection with the Rs 100 crore extortion case. In which former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh is involved. Sources close to the development said that the four accused would be brought to Delhi for further investigation.
Deshmukh, Palande and Shinde are in the custody of a special ED court, while Waje is in the custody of the NIA court. Both the courts allowed that his custody be taken over by the CBI.
Deshmukh, Palande and Shinde are currently lodged in Arthur Road jail, while Waje is in Taloja jail. The superintendents of the respective jails have been apprised of the development.
The CBI had registered an FIR against Deshmukh on April 21, 2021 and started investigation.
There are five cases of alleged corruption and extortion registered against Parambir Singh. He had gone missing on May 4 last year to evade investigation against him. Later, he appeared before the Mumbai Crime Branch to record his statement, when the Supreme Court granted him relief that he would not be arrested.
The CBI had earlier given a clean chit to Deshmukh, but later he registered an FIR to investigate the matter.
The CBI has also rewritten the statements of seven people, (all Mumbai Policemen), who were allegedly deployed under Deshmukh’s security.
Deshmukh and Waje often talked on the phone. Between December 2020 and February 2021, Waje reportedly collected around Rs 4.70 crore from the owners of orchestra bars in Mumbai.
Deshmukh’s PA Shinde allegedly collected the said amount from Vaje. Deshmukh’s PS Suryakant Palande reportedly passed the directions on Deshmukh’s behalf.
