New Delhi. Recently, the trolleys of Trikoot hills of Deoghar in Jharkhand were broken. 18 trolleys carrying 59 people got stuck in the air. At the same time, with the help of Indian Air Force, Army, ITBP and local administration, the trapped people were rescued. But despite all the efforts, three people lost their lives. This accident has necessitated a strong standard operating system, so as to prevent recurrence of such accidents in the near future.
In this context, Union Home Ministry Secretary Ajay Bhalla said that BIS has already been earmarked for the maintenance of the ropeway project, but at present there is a need for political compliance. At the same time, essential guidelines in this regard can be obtained from NHIDCL, which is a nodal organization under the Union Ministry of Road and Transport. Bhalla said that it is the responsibility of the concerned state government to inspect each ropeway. Maintenance standards should be drawn up for each ropeway.
Bhalla said that apart from maintenance, maintenance program should also be organized so that standards of safety related to ropeway can be set. The Home Secretary urged that every ropeway of the concerned state should be inspected on time so that the related defects can be rectified before any unforeseen situation takes shape. Suggestions of senior officers are also welcome in this regard.
