new Delhi. The Congress on Tuesday criticized the Modi government for hike in fuel prices, just days after the results of the assembly elections were announced on March 10. Addressing media persons here, Congress leader Anand Sharma said, “The government has earned Rs 26 lakh crore by raising central excise duty. Rise in LPG prices has burdened households.”
Anand Sharma alleged, “The government was just waiting for the election results to come out. Once again, they have done what they have been doing for the last eight years, hurting the poor without any justification.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi government took over, the price of crude oil was $108 a barrel. However, there is a sharp gap between fuel prices in India then and now despite similar crude oil prices.”
During the Manohar Singh government, the price of petrol and diesel in Delhi was Rs 69 and Rs 60.
With the increase in prices by state-owned oil marketing companies, the price of petrol and diesel in the national capital has been increased by 80 paise per litre.
As per the pump prices, petrol now costs Rs 87.47 per liter and diesel Rs 96.21 per liter in the national capital.
“When previous governments could manage without harming the poor, what justification does this government have for the hike,” the Congress leader asked.
“The central government has mismanaged the economy and whenever it wants to raise some money, it puts a burden on the common man,” he alleged.
He said that the oldest party would continue to raise the voice of the poor.
