new Delhi. The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed registration of light and heavy diesel BS-VI vehicles that are used for public utility and essential services.
Senior advocate A.K. appointed as amicus curiae. D. N. Rao, Justice B. R. Along with Gavai, Justice L. Nageswara Rao that the BS-VI light and heavy diesel vehicles used for public utility and essential services may be allowed to be registered.
The bench directed the authorities concerned not to seek court orders for the purpose of registration of these vehicles.
“We are of the view that registration may be allowed in respect of BS-VI light and heavy diesel vehicles used for public utility and essential services,” the bench said.
The bench stressed that the registering authorities should not insist on the court order for registration of public utility and essential services vehicles.
During the hearing, the counsel informed the bench after an observation by the National Green Tribunal against the registration of heavy duty vehicles that the authorities have insisted on the orders of the court.
The apex court was hearing various petitions seeking permission for registration of BS-VI diesel vehicles.
The bench also considered the petition seeking relaxation in the sale of BS-IV vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir and asked the applicant to approach the High Court for relief.
