The Congress on Wednesday accused the BJP government of Gujarat of ‘coal scam of six thousand crores’. The party demanded a probe into the matter by the Supreme Court and said that the entire investigation should be done in a time bound manner. The Congress raised the demand to conduct the investigation under the supervision of a sitting judge of the Supreme Court itself.
The opposition party also said that the Enforcement Directorate, CBI and other central agencies should register a case. Quoting a news, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi wrote in a tweet, “60 lakh tonnes of coal ‘missing’! Will the prime minister ‘friend’ say anything on this coal scam?
Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh told reporters, “The policy of providing good quality coal to small industries at affordable rates was started by the UPA government in 2007. Under this, the states were told that coal would reach them directly from the mines of Coal India and they should provide coal to small industries. But instead of doing this work on its own, the Gujarat government gave it to some agencies.
He alleged, “60 lakh tonnes of coal which should have been given to small industries was given to other industries outside the state at manifold rates. Its cost is Rs 6000 crores. This is a scam of six thousand crore rupees.
Vallabh claimed, “In the last 14 years, the Industries Department of Gujarat did not change these agencies. Whereas in other states the Industries Department itself is doing this work. Earlier, Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister as well as the Industries Minister of the state. After this Vijay Rupani and Bhupendra Patel were also Chief Ministers and Industries Ministers.
He said, “There should be a time-bound investigation in this case under the supervision of the sitting Supreme Court judge and the role of all the Chief Ministers since 2007 should also be probed.” should register a case.
