Wriddhiman Saha made controversial statements about head coach Rahul Dravid and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly after being ruled out of the Test series against Sri Lanka. He claimed that Dravid had advised him to retire from Tests. At the same time, Ganguly had said that as long as he is the President of BCCI, nothing will happen to him. Dravid has given his point of view on this statement of Saha. He has said that he is not hurt by the statement of this wicket-keeper batsman.
Dravid spoke at the press conference after winning the three-match T20I series 3-0 against the West Indies. On the question related to Saha, he said – No, I am not hurt at all. I have great respect for Wriddhiman Saha and his contribution to Indian cricket. I spoke for this honor.
Dravid further said- I think, he deserved to be honest and know things in the right way. I didn’t want them to know about this from the media. I never expect players to always agree with me on all aspects, but that doesn’t mean you hide it. I really believe in having this kind of face-to-face conversation. So I am not hurt by it. It is natural for players to be upset and sad.
My respect for Saha has not diminished: Dravid
Rahul Dravid explained why he had said these things to Saha. Actually, Rishabh Pant has now confirmed his place in the team. Team India now wants to prepare another young wicket-keeper batsman. Dravid said- Because of the respect I have for Riddhi, I think he deserved clarity. With Rishabh established as the number one keeper, we were looking to rope in one more keeper. Even after this incident, my respect for Riddhi did not change.
What did Wriddhiman Saha say?
Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara were dropped from the Test series against Sri Lanka by the Indian selection committee along with Saha. After being dropped from the team, Saha made a statement about Dravid and Ganguly. He had said- I was informed by the team management that my name would not be considered further. Coach Dravid told me to think about retiring.
Saha made his debut for India in 2010. It was only after former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni retired from Tests in late 2014 that his place in the team was confirmed. After this Rishabh Pant entered Team India. He cemented his place in the team with excellent batting and wicketkeeping. This made it difficult for Saha to return to the playing XI.
