new Delhi. Delhi Police has busted a fake international call center and arrested 8 people who allegedly duped US citizens of Rs 35 lakh on the pretext of technical assistance. The accused have been identified as Arjun Singh Bisht, Kapil Singh Negi, Mohammad Talha, Ankit Yadav, Santosh Srivastava, Venengmawiya, Mohammad Nadir and Arish Baig, South East Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Isha Pandey said on Monday.
“Secret information was received at the cyber police station that a fake international call center was operating at Okhla Vihar, Jamia Nagar, so a team was formed to nab the accused.”
The DCP said, “The team raided the place where six people were found having a telephonic conversation with the foreigners. They tried to escape after seeing the police team, but were overpowered by the surveillance team.”
During this interrogation, the accused told the police that they had duped several gullible persons, especially US citizens, posing as executives of Amazon Inc. and Paypal.
Through technical means the accused managed to obtain their fake technical support advertisements, in which their virtual toll free numbers are displayed at the top of the browsed pages.
When victims approach them for redressal of their grievance or seek technical assistance, the accused will get a fake anti-virus downloaded in their system and will receive payment in the form of gift cards from Amazon, Google Pay and Target .
In the investigation done so far, the transactions of about 35 lakh rupees have been confirmed from the computers seized from the accused.
