New Delhi. The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Delhi Police to submit a status report on the uproar outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla, while hearing the plea of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj to get the matter probed by a special investigation team, asked the Delhi Police to submit the status report in a sealed cover.
The division bench went through the video of the incident captured in the CCTV footage in the court. The Bench observed that the rioting crowd was unruly. They broke the barrier and some even tried to climb the gate. He tried to take the law into his own hands.
The Delhi Police strongly opposed the notice issued in connection with the incident and told the division bench that so far they have arrested eight persons in this case and investigation is on in the matter.
Delhi Police also informed that the police is meeting the Chief Minister’s secretary to discuss various aspects of the matter. Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain, appearing for the police, said that despite taking action and arrests were made within 24 hours of the incident, the petitioner approached the court. He said that this petition is politically motivated.
The next hearing of the case will be on April 25.
Significantly, around 70 people were detained for creating a ruckus outside Kejriwal’s residence. A few days ago, a protest was being held outside the residence of Kejriwal led by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Yuva Morcha to protest against Arvind Kejriwal’s statement regarding the film Kashmir Files.
