Chennai. DMK has targeted the Congress for its defeat in the recent 5 state elections. Party mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’ in its editorial on Monday said that the Congress’s sluggish attitude of uniting other opposition parties in its side was the reason behind its defeat in the elections.
According to the editorial, opposition unity is the need of the hour to oust the BJP from the Centre.
The party mouthpiece’s stand is the DMK’s political stand and this is the first time that the party has come out strongly against its ally.
Referring to Priyanka Gandhi’s statement before the election that the Congress is ready to forge an alliance with any party, the editorial said that the Congress did not do so and hence lost the election.
In his editorial, Murasoli criticized the BJP saying that the BJP won the election with its divisive and communal politics. In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP could only increase its vote share by 2 per cent, while the Samajwadi Party managed to increase its vote share by 10 per cent. According to the party’s mouthpiece, if the SP, BSP and Congress were united in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP would have been defeated.
In Punjab, BJP could not do anything except win two seats.
Political analysts believe that the DMK wants the Congress to take the lead in building an anti-BJP front for the 2024 general elections.
Dr R Padmanabhan, director of the Socio-Economic Development Foundation, a Madurai-based think tank, told -AnyTV News, “Given the poor condition of the Congress, it is better for the DMK to initiate a front against the BJP and have the Congress on board. It is practical to carry on and Stalin should have taken the initiative in earlier years like his father Late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.”
