India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval participated in the 19th meeting of the Secretaries of Security Councils of SCO countries in Kazakhstan and held important discussions on various issues including terrorism in the region. Doval emphasized that relations between India and SCO countries are centuries old and he is committed to deepening it further. He also said that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of SCO member countries should be fully respected.
Condemnation of terrorist attack in Russia
NSA Ajit Doval strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Moscow on March 22 and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He told his Russian counterpart that India is united with the Russian government and people to deal with the menace of terrorism in all its forms. NSA Doval has said that any act of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, by whomever, wherever and for whatever purpose, is not justified.
Facilitators of terrorism should be held accountable – Doval
NSA Ajit Doval has said that double standards should be avoided in the matter of terrorism and those who sponsor, finance and facilitate terrorism should be held accountable. Ajit Doval also said that perpetrators of terrorism, including those involved in cross-border terrorism, should be dealt with effectively and expeditiously.
Emphasis on eliminating terrorism from the region
Ajit Doval also raised the issue of terrorist threat in the SCO region by UNSC designated terrorist groups including Al Qaeda and its affiliates, ISIS and its affiliates, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad. In the meeting of SCO countries, Ajit Doval has stressed on countering the use of drones and other technologies by terrorists for cross-border smuggling of weapons and medicines. Doval said India supports the creation of effective mechanisms for cooperation within the RATS SCO to counter terror financing and also supports its further strengthening.
Concern over terrorist networks in Afghanistan
NSA Ajit Doval has expressed deep concern over the security situation in Afghanistan, including the continued presence of terrorist networks. He said that as Afghanistan’s neighbour, India has security and economic interests there. Doval stressed that the formation of an inclusive and representative government in Afghanistan, humanitarian assistance, combating terrorism and drug trafficking, and protecting the rights of women, children and minorities are among the priorities of the SCO. He also informed that India has invested 3 billion dollars in Afghanistan and has sent 50000 metric tons of wheat, 250 tons of medical aid, 40000 liters of Malathion pesticide.
