At the same time, Congress has reacted sharply to this matter of TMC and has called it an agent of BJP. Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee wants to come in the role of opposition at the national level, which the Congress has to say at the moment.
TMC had also fielded its candidates in Goa this time but its performance was not much. TMC leaders said that we are satisfied with the number of votes we have got in Goa. We started our unit in Goa only a few months back.
In the politically important state of Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is moving towards victory for the second time in a row and is also close to a majority in Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur. At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party is on the path of huge victory in Punjab. The Aam Aadmi Party has done the work of completely eliminating the Congress from the state. Now Congress is left with power only in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. In view of this situation of Congress, TMC has asked for merger.
‘Congress failed in war against BJP’
Senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim said the results proved that the Congress was now confined to only two states. Congress has proved unsuccessful in the war against BJP. “TMC has shown that you can fight against BJP and defeat it too. It is time the Congress merged with the TMC and fought a political war against the BJP under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.
Supporting Firhad Hakim, TMC general secretary Kunal Ghosh said that due to the failures of the Congress, the BJP has moved towards victory in the assembly elections in four of the five states. He said that we have been saying this for a long time that the Congress in its present condition is not fit to fight against the BJP. Ghosh further said that to fight a party like BJP, you need a leader like Mamata Banerjee.
BJP agents should not give advice to us: Adhir Ranjan
On the other hand, West Bengal Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Trinamool Congress’s offer to merge has said that ‘BJP agents’ should not advise us on how to fight against the saffron party. Chowdhary further said, “TMC is the biggest agent of BJP… If it is so serious about fight against BJP then it should merge with Congress.” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is also the leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha.
BJP told both of them family parties
At the same time, the BJP, which faced a crushing defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, has said that the party’s performance in four states is the victory of our development-based politics. Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar said that we do not want to comment on TMC’s offer for merger of Congress as both are family parties. He said that this victory of BJP in four states is a victory of public trust.
