Mumbai. The EV industry has welcomed the budget announcement regarding battery swapping facility in electric vehicles. It is believed that this will give speed to cars along with two wheelers and three wheelers. Battery swapping is being said to be better than charging stations. It may take half to two hours for the vehicle to be charged at the charging station. The battery can be replaced in a few minutes. This means that people can reach the destination faster by EV. At present, questions are being raised about the quality of the battery. Authorized battery centers may offer this option. Thousands of battery centers can be opened in the country to meet the demand. A large number of people can get employment in these. It is believed that with sufficient number of charging stations and battery centers, the demand for electric bikes, scooters, autos and cars will increase. This means that there are signs of good days for EVs. The use of EV will reduce pollution in the air. Crude oil import bill will come down if the consumption of diesel and petrol is reduced.
lack of charging facility
The biggest challenge for the EV is the lack of charging facility. Work is going on fast on this. People are gathering the facility of charging their vehicles in homes and residential societies. The problem is related to exit or travel far and wide. The EV will have to be charged after the distance covered. Where there is no charging facility, the battery can be swapped and left for the destination. Battery swapping service will not be available for free.
…Dil Maange EV
Taxi union president AL Kodros said EV taxis are a better option. Earnings can increase by reducing fuel costs. We want to adopt EVs at heart. Most of the drivers operating CNG taxis want to take EVs. There just aren’t enough charging stations. Yes, it can get easier once the battery swap feature is introduced.
opportunity for startup
Ketan Mehta, Founder, Hop Electric Mobility said that after the implementation of the budget announcement, battery centers will open across the country. Opportunities will be created in this area for new start-ups. EVs are expensive right now. As production increases, its cost may come down. Rev-Fin CEO Sameer Aggarwal said that if there is an option of clean fuel, then there will be less pollution in the cities. People will definitely adopt EVs once the ecosystem is ready.
opportunity for all
Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) Director General Sohinder Gill termed the battery swapping announcement in the budget as a game changer for EVs. With this, not only personal but commercial use of EVs will increase. E-buses can also be included in the transport corporation. Companies should increase investment for battery swapping service.
