Kolkata. In the murder of Congress councilor Tapan Kandu in West Bengal, his family members on Tuesday accused the local Trinamool Congress leader and also released an audio clip of his threat. Tapan’s wife Poornima Kandu and nephew Mithun Kandu have made public an audio clip of a local Toonmool leader Amal Kandu’s threat.
Poornima Kandu has told reporters that she will hand over the audio clip to the CBI.
Amal Kandu has not denied the talks but says that the talks took place long before the recently held municipal elections and it has nothing to do with Tapan’s murder.
Trinamool Congress state secretary and party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh has also taken the side of Amal and said that first of all, the veracity of the audio clip has to be checked. Even if this clip turns out to be true, it is wrong to link this conversation with the murder. The Special Investigation Team of the State Police had almost completely solved the case by arresting the main accused.
The Special Investigation Team had arrested four people including Tapan Kandu’s brother Naren Kandu and nephew Deepak Kandu in this connection.
Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court on Monday handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI and directed it to submit the preliminary inquiry report within 45 days.
In the High Court, Purulia District Superintendent of Police S Selvamurugan had claimed that the murder of the Congress councilor was the result of a family feud. He also gave a clean chit to Jhalda police station in-charge Sanjeev Ghosh.
In fact, the victim’s wife Purnima Kandu had earlier also alleged that Jhalda police station in-charge was pressuring her husband to leave Congress and join Trinamool. Purnima also said that Sanjeev Ghosh had tempted her husband that if he joined Trinamool, he would be made vice-chairman in Jhalda Municipal Corporation.
