The administration has made elaborate security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra, which is going to start after two years. Individual radio frequency identification tags will be installed on the vehicles from the Punjab border itself. As soon as the pilgrims going on the pilgrimage of Amarnath ji enter Jammu and Kashmir, their safety will be ensured from there. Security forces are more cautious about South Banihal. Apart from this, full vigilance is being taken regarding the security from Jammu camp to Umdhapur route.
It is worth noting that passengers used to use the Banihal Tunnel to go from Jammu to South Kashmir, but in the year 2018, a bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims was attacked by terrorists in Anantnag. Since then, travelers go through the Punjab-Jammu border via Lakhimpur.
According to a CRPF official, the idea is to give RFID tags to every passenger to ensure that the passenger can safely reach the place from where he started the journey after darshan. He told that this is a very challenging task as it will require more monitors.
The security of the Amarnath Yatra, which will run from June 30 to August 11, will be responsible for 50 companies of the Paramilitary Force. These include 40 CRPF companies. Security agencies are also alert about the possibility of a drone attack. In the last few months, the BSF and the Army had shot down several drones coming from Pakistan in Punjab and Jammu. It is being told that many of these drones were such that weapons were sent with them. According to Army sources, no unusual activity has been recorded along the LoC in the recent past. But the situation can change anytime and terrorists may try to disrupt the Amarnath Yatra.
