Narendra Modi and PM Modi
New Delhi: Confident Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said, “I firmly believe that God has sent me to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047 and until that happens, God will not call me back.” Modi was answering questions from Rajat Sharma on the show ‘Salaam India’, telecast on India TV tonight at 9 pm.
God has sent me for a special purpose
Modi said, “I feel that Almighty God has sent me for a special purpose. God has sent me to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047. God is guiding me, showing the path, I am giving hard work and courage. I have full faith that unless I achieve that goal by 2047, God will not call me back.” Prime Minister Modi is currently 74 years old.
The slogan ‘400 plus’ was not given by BJP but by the public
Modi said the slogan of ‘400 Paar’ was not given by the BJP but by the people. “Given the support we got from other parties during the last five years, our number in Parliament was already 400. Any child who scores 95 per cent marks will naturally strive for further targets.”
level playing field
On the complaint of Congress and other opposition parties that they did not get a level playing field in this election, Modi reminded how the then Chief Election Commissioner (TN Seshan) had postponed the voting in the whole country for 22 days after the assassination of Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991. At that time only one round of voting was completed. After this the elections were postponed till mid-June. The remaining rounds of voting were conducted on June 12 and 15.
Modi said, ‘If a candidate dies, the election gets postponed. Someone tell me, when Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated, the election should have been cancelled in his seat only… But the Election Commission of that time postponed the election of the whole country. There was no logic. And about 21 to 22 days were given. Journeys were done across the country with his ashes. Then the date of election was given.’ PM Modi asked- what level playing field was this? Modi said, “The same person (TN Seshan) after retirement contested the election against our party president (LK Advani) in Gandhinagar in 1999 on a Congress ticket.”
This answer was given on the arrest of Kejriwal and Hemant Soren
Asked why two sitting chief ministers (of Delhi and Jharkhand) were sent to jail when the election process was going on, Modi said, “We did not send them to jail. The courts sent both the chief ministers to jail. We do not have the power to put anyone in jail or keep anyone in jail. This decision is taken by the court. See what the Supreme Court said in the case of former Jharkhand CM (Hemant Soren). What the Delhi High Court said about the former minister (Manish Sisodia) in the money laundering case… People have seen huge amounts of cash being seized by the Enforcement Directorate. We should all praise the ED for seizing Rs 2,200 crore cash. This money can be put in 70 tempos. Whereas in the 10-year rule of the UPA, only Rs 34 lakh cash was seized which can be put in a child’s school bag.”
My government works to eliminate corruption
Modi attacked the Aam Aadmi Party government over the Delhi liquor case and said, “They wanted to ruin the lives of children by opening liquor shops near schools, they offered one bottle free on every bottle of liquor, because they were getting commission on every bottle.” PM Modi said, “Let me make it clear that I won the 2014 elections only because I promised to take action against the corrupt. I do not run this government to get headlines in newspapers and TV. My government works to end corruption.”
Pakistan
On Pakistan’s allegation that India was behind the targeted killing of terrorists in the country, Modi replied: “This is not the issue. I know that people in Pakistan are upset, but I also know that I am the reason for their troubles. When people there cry, I can understand, but I cannot understand why people here cry.”
bows head in shame
Modi said as an example, ‘But it is sad that a person from a responsible party of my country says that in the 26/11 attack, Kasab did not kill the people of our country but our countrymen killed their countrymen. A party which remained in power for years. That party was in power at the time of 26/11. And when such a statement comes from its side, it hurts a lot. How can such a leader give a statement in favor of Pakistan and Ajmal Kasab? Whenever I hear such comments, my head bows in shame.’
This was my country once upon a time.
On Mani Shankar Aiyar’s comment that India should respect Pakistan because it has nuclear bombs, Modi humorously replied, ‘It is so that I myself have gone to Lahore and checked that power. I landed in Lahore without any security check. A reporter was reporting there.. Hi Allah Tauba.. Hi Allah Tauba.. How did they come without visa.. I said, this was my country once upon a time…’
should be checked for mental illness
To a Shiv Sena (UBT) leader’s prediction that Modi might send a train of devotees to the Ram temple in Ayodhya before the elections and Pakistan might blow up the train, leading to riots and making it easier for Modi to win the election, Modi replied: “Why don’t journalists go and ask that leader why he is not taking medicine or getting a medical check-up done? Was any train blown up? Was there a riot? He should get his mental illness checked?”
