new Delhi. Google has announced the addition of a new ‘highly seated’ label to search results to help users find the original source of a trending story. The company said it is offering a way to help people identify stories that are often sited by other news organizations.
Nidhi Hebbar, product manager at Google, said, “This label will appear on top stories. You’ll find it on anything from an investigative article, to an interview, an announcement, a press release or a local news story, as long as Other publishers indicate its relevance by adding it.”
The company said it is particularly interested in the ability to upgrade original reporting, making it even easier for people to find and connect with publishers and journalists whose work gives a story unparalleled value.
The highly-cited label is launching soon on mobile in English for the US and will roll out globally in the coming weeks, the company said in a blog post late Thursday.
With the label ‘highly situated’, Google Search is expanding its efforts to help users critically evaluate the results they are showing.
Hebber informed, “Starting today, on searches in English in the US, the information will also include tips to help you evaluate information online. Reminding you that you can trust a source on a topic.” or may return later when more information becomes available.”
