new Delhi . Google has started airstrikes alerts for Android users in Ukraine directly on their phones before a possible attack occurs. Upon request and with the help of the Government of Ukraine, Google has started rolling out a rapid air raid alert system for Android phones in Ukraine.
“This work complements the country’s existing air raid alert system and builds on alerts already being provided by the Ukrainian government,” said Kent Walker, president of global affairs at Google.
Android notifications will be based on alerts already being sent by the Ukrainian government.
“Sadly, millions of people in Ukraine now rely on airstrike alerts to find safety,” Walker said in a statement late Thursday.
Google said that to help the growing number of refugees in the region, it is developing ways to flag businesses if they are providing services to refugees.
“Starting today, hoteliers in Ukraine’s neighboring countries can indicate on their business profiles whether they are offering free or subsidized accommodation for refugees,” the company said.
Local businesses can search and post their business profiles on the map to provide various services and assistance to refugees from Ukraine.
“As we compile this information over the coming weeks, we will make it possible for people to quickly search and find these places on a map,” Google said.
