New Delhi. It is not easy to represent the country’s team in cricket. To develop sports skills, any player has to sweat for hours on the field and work hard. Many times, despite hard work, the dream of playing for the country is not fulfilled. In this regard, the case of Luke Pomersbach of Australia is unique. Lucky Pomersbach got a chance to play T20I for Australia in 2007 when he was least expecting it.
Pomersbach’s story can be considered a great example of ‘opportunity in disaster’. A T20I match was to be played between Australia and New Zealand in Perth on 11 December 2007. Batsman Brad Hodge was also included in the Australian team, but just before the match, such a ‘ridiculous’ accident happened that he had to be out of the match. In this situation, under compulsion, Pomersbach managed to get a place in the playing eleven.

Hodge got injured just before the match
According to the Wisden report, Hodge had fallen while wearing trousers. He had to be out of the match due to a back injury. The interesting thing was that there was no reserve batsman included in the Australian squad. In such a situation, local cricketer Pomersbach, who had come to watch the match with his girlfriend, was given a place in the team. Left-handed batsman Pommerbach made his debut in Australia’s domestic cricket in December 2006, but fate was on his side that only a year later, at the age of 23, he made his T20 debut for Australia. In domestic cricket, Pomersbach was famous for hitting big sixes. However, he could play only this match in his international career. After this he did not get a chance to play for Australia.

Scored 15 runs on 7 balls in debut T20I
Australia won this match by 54 runs. After winning the toss and batting first, the Australian team, captained by Michael Clarke, scored 186 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs, in which Pomersbach, who came to bat at number six, contributed 15 runs (7 balls, one four and one six). Andrew Symonds, who scored unbeaten 85 runs (46 balls, seven fours and three sixes), was the top scorer of the team. Mark Gillespie and Jeetan Patel of Kiwi team took two wickets each. In reply, New Zealand team was all out after scoring 132 runs in 18.3 overs despite Jacob Oram’s unbeaten 66 runs (31 balls, five fours and three sixes). Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait took two wickets each.

Scored five centuries in first class cricket
However, Pomersbach’s first class figures are impressive. He represented the Western Australia team in 39 first-class matches and scored 2785 runs at an average of 39.78, which included five centuries and 20 half-centuries. 176 runs was his top score in first class cricket. He has 666 runs (highest 104*) in 37 List A matches at an average of 20.81 and 1228 runs (highest 112*) in 56 T20 matches (not International).

Pommerbach, who also played in IPL, has been associated with controversies.
Pomersbach has played in IPL. He has a deep connection with controversies. Pomersbach’s name first came into controversy in his country when he attacked a police officer who tried to arrest him for drunk driving. The name of Pomersbach, who played for Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore, again came into controversy in IPL 2012. He was arrested for molesting an American woman and attacking her fiance. This incident happened after RCB’s win against Delhi Daredevils (new name Delhi Capitals).
According to the information, Pomersbach himself had invited the couple for a drink in the hotel room with their common friend from Mumbai. When the woman went to her room to sleep, Pomersbach followed her and abused her. When the woman’s fiance intervened, Pomersbach allegedly beat him too. The fiance was admitted to the hospital. The woman had also alleged that pressure was put on her to withdraw the case. RCB management had suspended Pomersbach in this matter.
