Gwalior Railway News: Gwalior, New Dunia Representative. After the intervention of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, changes are being made in the project to make Gwalior railway station like a world-class airport. The Railway Minister has given instructions to change the design of all the railway stations to be redeveloped in the country. Based on this the design of Gwalior station will also be changed. The railways had in January last prepared an estimate of Rs 432 crore for the redevelopment of the station, but due to the change in design, its cost is likely to increase by Rs 10 crore. After this, the tender process will be done to start the work on the spot.
In the railway stations of the country, including Gwalior, which are to be redeveloped, the Railway Minister himself has given instructions to make some changes taking interest. Under this, apart from the construction of waiting hall on the platform for the seating of passengers, the Concourse area (concurrent area) on the first floor has to be increased. Passengers will have seating facility in this area. In the design and estimate prepared for Gwalior station, the Concourse area was kept 50 meters wide. Now instructions have been given to increase it to 72 meters wide. This area will be ready at Jhansi and Agra ends. For this, the entrance gates from platform number one side will also be widened. This will increase the cost of the station’s redevelopment project. According to officials, the cost of making changes in the design can reach up to Rs 442 crore.
One month time limit: Along with making changes in the design of this project, the officials have fixed a time limit of one month to get approval from the headquarters located at Jhansi and Prayagraj. Efforts are being made to complete the paperwork and issue tenders within a month. Fast work is being done for this.
This is how the project went: The plan for redevelopment of Gwalior station is going on from the year 2019. Its responsibility was entrusted to the Indian Rail Station Development Corporation. The station is to be developed on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. The redeveloping company will be given 9900 sqm of land on lease for 99 years by the Railways, on which it can do commercial and residential construction. The design of this station was kept completely like an airport, so that its view could be grand and passengers could also get better facilities. IRSDC was closed on 18 October 2021 and the responsibility of redevelopment of stations was entrusted at the zonal level. The zonal officers prepared the estimate of this project, which became Rs 432 crore. Now after the intervention of the Railway Minister, the change in its design will increase the cost.
These will be modern functions: An attractive terrace will be built on top of the station building, which will have the Concourse Area. Here passengers can sit comfortably and wait for their train. From here there will be automatic stairs and lift to reach the platform. The circulating area will have a three-lane road and footpath for pedestrians. There is also a plan to build a foot over bridge to connect the bus stand with the station. Here passengers will also be able to get the facility of shopping on the platform itself, as well as there is a plan to prepare a restaurant.
