In 1969, Dr. KK Date claimed that high blood pressure could be reduced without medicine through ‘Shavasana’. This fact was further found to be true by Dr. H. Christine and Dr. Mark Dambert in their research. One of the asanas in yoga for heart patients that is recognized by medical science is Shavasana. This asana is very easy, simple and beneficial.

Yogacharya told Local 18 that Shavasana is very suitable to start yoga. There is little to no physical effort involved. It does not put any stress on the heart, lungs and muscles. Even weak heart patients or those with damaged cardiovascular system can do it without any problem. This asana instills hope in serious heart patients. According to other research, this asana is also effective on elderly heart patients. Shavasana is not just an asana but a mind-body exercise. If taught properly, it makes one realize how mental stress can be removed.
How to do Shavasana
To do this asana, first of all you have to lie straight on your back. Then you lie down straight and leave your shoulders, back and legs loose. Now close your eyes or apply a bandage over them. Keep your hands at the sides and keep the palms open upwards. Then after doing this, concentrate all your attention on your breathing. Keep all your attention focused on breathing.

Yogacharya told Local 18 that this yoga asana reduces physical and mental stress. It also reduces high blood pressure and gives comfort to the heart. This asana is calming and removes fear. It is very helpful in healing the heart. Along with this, special imagery is also done for heart patients, which keeps the heart healthy.
