Shimla . Himachal Pradesh Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj on Tuesday said that the state assembly has passed the Himachal Pradesh Slum Dwellers (Proprietary Rights) Bill, 2022 to give property rights to people living in slum areas in the state. .
The matter has been listed for discussion after the minister introduced the bill in the assembly on Monday. Bhardwaj said that the bill would not only benefit the eligible people living in Shimla but also other urban local bodies across the state.
He said, “The BJP government is committed to the welfare of all sections of the society. This bill is an important step for the slum dwellers. A slum dweller would be entitled to land of more than 75 square meters which is two biswas.”
The Bill states, “Provided that where the slum dwellers hold less than 75 square meters of land, the land actually occupied by such slum dwellers may be settled accordingly.”
The minister said that the rights would be given free of cost to the eligible person who comes under the economically weaker section. The rates for other categories will be nominal and will be fixed in the notification.
The Bill also proposes a fund called Municipal Area Development Fund in every urban local body in which money received from slum dwellers under the Act would be deposited. Apart from this, the amount received from the government or CSR can also be deposited in the fund.
