The Indian women’s hockey team has been placed in Pool B for the World Cup to be held in Spain and Netherlands from July 1. India is placed alongside England, New Zealand and China. The Indian team had recently qualified for the World Cup by finishing third in the Asia Cup in Muscat.
The Indian team was in the top eight for the first time in the last World Cup. The Netherlands are in Group A with Germany, Ireland and Chile, while Pool C features hosts Spain, Argentina, Korea and Canada. Australia, Belgium, Japan and South Africa are in Group D.
Indian goalkeeper Savita Poonia said- It is a difficult pool because in the world rankings, England (at number three) and New Zealand (at number eight) are above us and China can upset at any time.
Savita said- As a team, our focus has always been on our performance, not on the ability of the opponent. Now that we know who to play in the pool stage, we can prepare accordingly.
