India’s women’s ODI team captain Mithali Raj has said that winning the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 will bring a big change within the fans in the country. The Women’s World Cup will be played in New Zealand from March 4 to April 3. India’s first match in this tournament is against Pakistan on 6 March. The Indian team reached the final of the 2017 World Cup, but had to face defeat at the hands of England. However, in this tournament, India defeated Australia in the semi-finals. Because of this, the popularity of women’s cricket in India had increased a lot.
Mithali says that during the 2000 World Cup she did not think that people in India would recognize her so much that it would be difficult to walk in the streets.
In her column for the ICC, Mithali Raj wrote, “The memories of the final of the 2017 World Cup are fresh in my mind. We missed so close to victory. The Lord’s ground was packed with spectators and missing such an occasion will be a lifetime memory. It has been a matter of pride to captain India in two out of three final matches. Since the 2005 World Cup, we have had many memorable performances, but one big win has been lacking.”
India lost in the finals of ODI and T20 World Cup
The Indian team has been runner-up in the last T20 and ODI World Cups. Mithali wrote on this that we have learned a lot from these experiences. We have shown that we have the ability to win trophies. Now we just need to show this and the result of doing this will be amazing. I can only imagine it.
Women will get help in IPL
Mithali said that talk of starting women’s IPL in India is gaining momentum. In such a situation, if the Indian team wins the ODI World Cup, then it will be icing on the gold. He wrote, “This will not only matter to the players and their families, but it will be a big change for our fans in India. There is already a women’s IPL initiative there. Our fans are one of the most passionate fans in the world. And we knew they would be watching us. I’m sure if we win, New Zealand will be able to hear them.”
Didn’t think walking in the streets would be difficult during the 2000 World Cup
Mithali wrote, “When I played my first World Cup, I never thought that people in the streets of my country would recognize me so much that it would be difficult to walk there. Now this thing has become normal. That’s how far the game has progressed over the years.” Mithali is one of the most popular sportspersons of India.
Praised Shefali and Mandhana
Mithali told that Shefali Verma is fast becoming popular in India. Fans watch his batting very carefully. At the same time, she is learning a lot by playing with Mandhana. He wrote for Richa Ghosh and Tania Bhatia that both of them are excellent wicketkeepers on whom the team can rely. At the same time, everyone knows what Harmanpreet Kaur can do.
