New Delhi. Responding to the petition filed by Arvind Kejriwal in the Supreme Court calling his arrest illegal, the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday said that the arrest of the CM in the money laundering case is legal and any person committing a crime can be arrested on the basis of evidence. Can, no matter how big it is. ED said that arresting the CM has not violated the concept of free and fair elections.
ED had arrested Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 in the money trail case regarding the alleged scam in Delhi Liquor Policy. Calling this arrest illegal, the CM had earlier filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, which was rejected. Now the CM has approached the Supreme Court in this matter. On this, the ED said in its affidavit, ‘The arrest of a person for committing a crime on the basis of material can never violate the concept of free and fair elections. No matter how big it is. If the above argument is accepted, the criminal politicians will be exempted from arrest.”
While presenting its point, ED said that despite being summoned nine times, Arvind Kejriwal kept avoiding questioning by not appearing before the investigating officer. The agency, in its over 700-page reply, also said that a total of more than 170 mobile phones were altered and destroyed by 36 persons (accused and other involved persons) during the period of the scam and at the time of the scam.
