New Delhi, The Indian team has been looking for a regular wicketkeeper since Rishabh Pant’s car accident but they could not find a good player for this position. Wicketkeeper batsman Kona Bharat, who performed poorly with the bat in the first two Test matches against England, should be given another chance. Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel said that this Andhra player has played his role behind the wicket brilliantly.
Bharat has played seven test matches so far but he has not been able to score a single half-century. There is a possibility that due to better batting in the third Test starting from Thursday, Dhruv Jurel may get a chance to debut. Parthiv, who played 25 Tests for India, admitted that there is turmoil regarding the wicketkeeper’s position in the Indian team.
In an online conversation with Parthiv, he said, “Bharat has definitely performed brilliantly (in wicketkeeping) in this series so far and also in the series against Australia. As far as scoring runs is concerned, there is no doubt that you want runs from his bat. That is something which has not happened.
Parthiv said that in these circumstances Bharat and Jurel are India’s two best options. “What you are seeing is a complicated case,” he said. You want runs from him without any doubt. It depends on the team management. Yes, there is instability at the moment, you cannot deny that. But you have to take a chance with anyone.
Parthiv pointed to Bharat’s innings of 41 and 28 runs in difficult conditions in the opening Test in Hyderabad and advocated giving him another chance. He said, “However, you have to see his 41 runs in the first innings of the Hyderabad Test match. When all the main batsmen were out in the second innings, Bharat along with Ashwin gave hope to the team.
