The issue of not giving a room to a Kashmiri youth in a hotel in Delhi is gaining momentum. A video of this is going viral on social media. In the viral video, the man talks about showing documents like Kashmir-based Aadhar card, passport but is seen refusing to give him the room at the reception.
Let us tell you that this matter has come to the fore when there is a lot of discussion about the film Kashmir Files. The director of this film, Vivek Agnihotri, says that the story of the atrocities on Kashmiri Pandits has been told in it. At the same time, people on social media say that this is the ground effect of the film Kashmir Files for not being given room to the person.
In the viral video, the man tells a woman employee sitting at the hotel reception to show a valid identity proof other than Aadhar card but still the Kashmiri resident does not get the room. He was told that the ID of Jammu and Kashmir will not work here. Significantly, the person had booked a room in the hotel through the Oyo website.
When the person asked why the room was not being given to him, the hotel replied that he has been instructed by the Delhi Police not to give room to Kashmiri citizens in the hotel.
Nasser Khuhmi, National Spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Students Union, in a tweet said, “This is the impact of the film Kashmir Files at the grassroots level. Delhi hotel denied room to Kashmiri man despite ID and other documents. Is being a Kashmiri a crime?
However, after the video went viral, Delhi Police has said in its clarification that no such instruction has been issued by Delhi Police. An attempt is being made to deliberately malign the image of Delhi Police through the video.
Significantly, information has been received about the person that he is a resident of Srinagar. He has been identified as Syed by the local media. Syed had booked the hotel room online. This incident is being told on 22 March. Following the uproar, Oyo has removed the hotel from its list.
