Assam Police did not think that its CM Hemant Biswa Sarma had committed any crime by making absurd statements. Therefore, the police also refused to look into the complaint of the Congress MP. But when the matter reached the court, the CM got stuck. At present, an Assam court has asked to register a case against Hemant in the case of inflammatory speech.
A Guwahati court has directed the police to register an FIR against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the basis of a complaint by Congress MP Abdul Khaliq, The Indian Express reported. The complaint alleges Sarma of making provocative remarks during an eviction drive. Khaliq’s lawyer Shamim Ahmed Barbhuyan said that Congress MP Khaliq had moved the court after the Dispur police station refused to register an FIR against Sarma.
After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court said that the police did not know what to do. She failed to perform her duty. But the law is equal for all. Instead of looking at who committed the crime, the police had to see what the crime was. He had to do his work without being influenced by anyone. The court said that this was not done. The court of Biswadeep Barua directed the Dispur police station to register a case on the basis of the complaint of the MP.
The MP had said in his complaint that Sarma had made objectionable remarks against the Muslim community justifying the eviction drive in Gorukhuti in September. He had lodged a complaint with Dispur police station on December 29, but the case was not registered. The complaint states that the campaign launched at Gorukhuti in Darrang district was a retaliation for the incidents during the Assam agitation in 1983. Keep in mind that some youths also died in the dispute during that time.
