Former Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on May 19 after resigning from the party. It is worth noting that during the three-day Congress’s Chintan Shivir in Udaipur, Rajasthan, Sunil Jakhar had resigned from the Congress by coming to Facebook Live. Three days after his resignation, Sunil Jakhar joined BJP in the presence of BJP National President JP Nadda in Delhi.
On this occasion, JP Nadda gave him a bouquet of flowers wearing a BJP flag. Nadda said, “I welcome Sunil Jakhar to the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is a seasoned political leader who has carved a niche for himself during his political career. I am sure he will play a big role in strengthening the BJP in Punjab.”
What did he say after joining BJP: Sunil Jakhar said, ‘I am grateful to everyone that joined BJP. It’s not easy. My association with Congress is 50 years old. I have been in Congress for three generations. Did not work to break politics for personal interest. The land of Punjab is the land of Sadhu Pir.
Jakhar said that nationalism begins from Punjab. I was made guilty because I raised the question that you cannot divide Punjab into any caste and religion.
Praising PM Modi: Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sunil Jakhar said that I stayed in Parliament for one and a half years. Prime Minister Modi had come to Punjab for the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor. Then anchored with him and got a chance to talk. Now he made the ‘Chadar of Hind’ at the Red Fort, the 400th Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji.
Earlier on Saturday, May 14, 2022, he announced his resignation during a Facebook Live. He also said “goodluck” and “goodbye” while wishing the party ahead. His resignation came at a time when the Congress party was conducting a Chintan Shivir to fix the condition of the organisation.
Channi was criticized: Let us inform that Sunil Jakhar had described former CM Charanjit Singh Channi as a burden for the party after the last Punjab Assembly elections. Following this criticism, the party’s disciplinary panel suspended Sunil Jakhar from the party for two years on April 26. Not only this, apart from this there are other reasons behind his leaving the party.
Displeasure with Rahul: Actually, Jakhar was seeing himself in the race for the post of CM in the last Punjab elections. But the situation changed with a statement by party veteran Ambika Soni. In fact, he had said that if a Hindu was made the chief minister in Punjab, the state would be on fire.
Rahul did not appear to stand by Jakhar when a section of the Congress was trying to stop him from becoming the Chief Minister. He also said that Rahul Gandhi can never take a decision. In such circumstances, Jakhar decided to leave the party.
