The atmosphere seems to be getting excited again on the notices issued by the Yogi government regarding the anti-CAA movements. However, after the displeasure of the CJI, the UP government withdrew all the recovery notices. But again notices are being issued. According to a report, some of the accused have received notices to appear before the Claims Tribunal.
According to the news of the Indian Express, Prem Kala Singh, president of the claims tribunal of Lucknow zone, asked the accused to explain why their property should not be confiscated. The special thing is that the Supreme Court had shown sharp attitudes regarding these notices. Even after that the government is not taking its steps back.
Not long ago, the Supreme Court had come down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh government for sending recovery notices to those involved in the CAA movement. The court had said that it is against our decision. This cannot be allowed. Justice Surya Kant, who was included in the bench along with CJI NV Ramanna, had even said that if the government does not agree, then be ready to face the consequences. We will tell you how court decisions should be followed.
The Supreme Court made this remark during the hearing of a petition. The court was hearing a petition by Pervez Arif Titu. In this, a request was made to quash the notices sent to compensate for the damage caused to public properties during the CAA agitation in Uttar Pradesh. According to Titu, the Yogi government sent recovery notices arbitrarily. A notice has also been sent to the dead person.
The UP government had sent notices to 130 people in this case in December 2019. In the subsequent round, the government has issued 274 notices. In these, it has been said to recover lakhs from the people. However, 38 cases were later closed. While 236 included the matter of recovery. Seeing the attitude of the Supreme Court, the government withdrew all the notices.
