Industrialist and Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has a security cover by the central government. Against this, a petition was filed in the Tripura High Court, after which the High Court summoned the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs. But now the central government has put a petition in the Supreme Court against it, on which the court has agreed to hear.
Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta moved a petition before a bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala and requested for its immediate listing, to which the bench agreed. Let us tell you that the Tripura High Court had asked the Home Ministry official to come to the court with papers, who had provided security to the Ambani family on the ground of danger.
Tushar Mehta has argued that the Tripura High Court has no monopoly on the matter that security is being given to a family which can never be in public interest. “The prayer is that you decide that the threat perception based protection given to an industrial family in Bombay is wrong and withdraw the protection,” said Mehta.
Justice Surya Kant has asked whether the Tripura Police provided security or the Central Government. The Solicitor General informed that the security cover has been provided by the Government of Maharashtra based on the perception of the Central Government. “It is a central security. Tripura government has nothing to do with it. In any case, the personal security of the Ambani family cannot be the subject of a PIL. The court wants to see the perception of danger.”
The bench wanted to know whether the order of the High Court was final or whether the proceedings were still pending. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said it is an interim order but it is almost final and let the Home Ministry official come here tomorrow (June 28).
