Patidar leader Hardik Patel (28) took membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning. He was given membership by senior party leader CR Patil. Before joining BJP, Hardik Patel performed Gopuja and took blessings. Ever since leaving the Congress party on May 18, there was speculation that he would join the BJP. Hardik Patel, who was the working president of Gujarat in the Congress party, came into limelight during the Patidar agitation in 2015. At that time there was a lot of discussion about him across the country. After this, he joined the Congress party in 2019 and was made the working president of the party at a very young age.
Elections to Gujarat’s 182-member assembly are due later this year. Patel had, in a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi before quitting Congress, claimed that the party had only “played the role of a deterrent” on some important issues in the country and that it was “merely opposed to everything”. It’s just narrowed down.
Former Congress leader Hardik Patel, once a bitter critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, tweeted before joining the BJP on Thursday that he would act as a “sepoy” of the Prime Minister and start a “new chapter”. . He wrote, “With the feelings of national interest, state interest, public interest and social interest, I am going to start a new chapter from today. I will work as a small soldier in the work of serving the nation under the leadership of the successful Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Bhai Modi ji.
Patel, once a staunch critic of the BJP, was booked by the then BJP government of Gujarat on several charges including sedition. A case was registered against him under sections 124 (a), 121 (a) and 120 (b) of the Indian Penal Code and he is out on bail since 2016. The BJP government has also recently taken steps to withdraw several cases registered against Hardik Patel and others in connection with the 2015 Patidar reservation agitation.
