Garima Singh, who is called the Queen of Amethi, says that she was married to Dr. Sanjay Singh, the son of the Raja of Amethi. She tells that former Prime Minister VP Singh was her real uncle. Garima Singh is currently contesting the assembly elections from the BJP from the Amethi seat and has also been an MLA from here. She told in an interview that she is trying to prove herself as the wife of Dr. Sanjay Singh. Let us know how his political journey started.
He said that in the year 1993, through the news of a newspaper, it was found that Sanjay had married Amita Modi. Since then she has been fighting a legal battle to prove herself as his wife and will keep trying till her last breath. He said that he has followed all the rules while living in the palace between the curtains. Now she is traveling among them for the legal battle and for the fight for the rights of the people.
Describing about herself, she says that she was born in the Champaran district of Bihar to her maternal grandfather. The family of father Harbakhsh Singh was from Prayagraj. At the age of 18, she got married to Dr. Sanjay Singh, the son of Raja Saheb of Amethi. During that time everything was going well. I had a daughter after two years of marriage. There the happiness increased further, because there was a big reason that the kilkari did not resonate in the palace of Amethi for four generations. Dr. Sanjay Singh’s father and Raja Rajarshi Ranjay Singh of Amethi was my father-in-law.
When the period of Emergency started, her husband contested the first election from Amethi and he won with huge votes. He was fond of meeting leaders and people. His circle was long and wide. He was very busy because of his work. That’s why I always stood by him.
During the 80s, when the Sports Ministry was with Sanjay Singh, he met badminton player Syed Modi. Then Syed Modi got married to Badminton player Amita Modi. Both became our family friends. Amita Modi used to share many of her problems with us.
She told that the closeness of her husband and Amita started increasing. Syed Modi also had objections to this. Amita used to come and go in the palace. To which his father-in-law also had objections. I also fought many times with Dr. Saheb i.e. Sanjay Singh. But it didn’t matter.
Then Syed Modi was assassinated and there was panic in political and social life. CBI raids started every day. Who used to come in support of her husband. She told that during that time she had taken care of all the responsibilities of feeding them and the household. She always stood by the rock with her husband.
They told that my husband was shot. I immediately spoke to my uncle VP Singh. He was the Prime Minister at that time. Because of them, we got a flight to London immediately and my husband could be treated. Having snatched them from the mouth of death, I saved them and brought them back.
In his interview given to Bhaskar, he said that even though Dr. Sanjay has remarried, that marriage is not valid. I am the queen of Amethi and her wife. I am fighting a battle about this. I want my children to get their due.
She said that I have never divorced my husband. I can never even imagine that. Upon investigation, it was found that the divorce papers were prepared on my behalf by putting a fake Garima Singh’s photo in the court of Sitapur and the fake sign was given to my husband, on which he signed himself. After 25 days of divorce, he got married with Amita. When I challenged my husband’s second marriage in the court, the court found that their marriage was illegal.
Said that when I went to the palace from Lucknow, I was not allowed to enter inside. I came back to Lucknow from the temple of my family deity. Now the battle had become a matter of honor. I knocked on the door of the court. I was allowed to stay with my children in two rooms on the top floor of the palace in Amethi. Other than that my children and I are not allowed to go anywhere in the palace.
He said that he has such painful stories. She has joined the BJP because now she wants to leave the life of the palace and live among the people of Amethi.
