People of Kasta village located in Jamtara, Jharkhand were upset due to non-availability of bridge over Ajay river. Appealed to the government but to no avail. In the end, the villagers showed the mirror to the government by building an 850 meter long Bambu bridge on the river on their own. The government is also surprised to see their solidarity.
The problem of the village falling in the Nala block was that due to the absence of a bridge over the river, they had to travel an additional 25 km to reach Asansol in West Bengal. Most of the children of the village go to school in Bengal. But due to lack of bridge, they were facing a lot of trouble.
Kasta’s chief Parimal Bauri told that the Ajay river had the future of the village, because Asansol has excellent educational institutions. Asansol is also a great place for the working people of the village. Since the construction of the bridge, about 3500 people of the village are getting the facility. However, this bridge of Bamboo is giving relief to about 30 thousand people.
The chief says that when the government did not listen, the villagers gathered together and decided to build the Bambu Bridge. Building an 850 meter long bridge was no laughing matter. Therefore, the people of the village who did not give money, they compensated by doing physical labor. One lakh rupees were spent to build the bridge. The people of the village borne it from their own hands and also the work to build the bridge.
It took about a month to build the makeshift bridge. People from nearby villages also helped in building the bridge by donating shram. The enthusiasm of the people of the village was worth seeing. Yes why not? After all, what they had to do before going 15 km away and crossing the river from Maheshmunda.
