Pakistan had alleged that on March 9, a supersonic projectile (flying object) was fired from the Indian side. Pakistan had feared it to be a supersonic missile, on which clarification has been issued by India. The Defense Ministry in a statement insisted that the missile was fired due to a technical fault. India has expressed regret over this and said that a high level inquiry has been ordered in this matter.
“It has been taken seriously and a High Level Court of Inquiry has been ordered,” the Indian government said. The statement further said that “It has been learned that the missile had landed in an area of Pakistan. While this incident is extremely regrettable, however, it is also a matter of relief that no one has lost their lives in the accident.
A statement issued by the Defense Ministry said that the missile fired due to a technical fault during routine maintenance. Pakistan had alleged that a supersonic missile was fired by India, which fell within 124 km of Pakistan’s border.
On Friday, Pakistan summoned the Indian representative regarding this incident and expressed its strong protest and demanded a transparent investigation in this matter. The Indian diplomat was apprised that the ‘launch’ of the flying object not only caused damage to civilian property but also put lives at risk.
Pakistan, citing the International Aerospace Safety Protocol, termed it as an example of negligence and expressed its strong opposition. It was said from Pakistan that after India’s clarification, they will take the next step. However, on Pakistan’s allegations, India has issued a statement expressing regret over the incident of missile firing.
India’s statement came after Pakistani military spokesman Major General Babar Iftikhar said that the un-armed supersonic missile was fired from Sirsa which fell near Mian Channu, about 124 km inside Pakistani territory.
