Keeping in view the increasing number of road accidents, a mobile app named ‘Integrated Road Accident Database’ has been created by an initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.
The National Informatics Center (NIC) under the leadership of DCP Sagar Singh Kalsi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northern District, trained the officials regarding the Integrated Road Accident Database Mobile App. All the officers of the northern district were present in this training. According to NIC’s SRM Kundan Kumar, ‘As soon as the information about the incident is received, the nearest policemen will reach the spot, only then complete information about the incident like the date and time of reporting on the accident will have to be entered on this application. The app will then automatically take the ‘longitude’ and ‘latestute’ of the crash site.’
After this, the severity of the accident, the number of injured and the number of vehicles will be seen. In future this app will also be linked to the health department. Due to which a notification will be sent to the nearest road accident hospital as soon as the incident is recorded in the policeman’s app and accordingly arrangements will be made in the hospital and treatment will be provided to the injured at the earliest.
According to NIC DRM Akhilesh Tripathi, “The Government of India has appointed NIC for project development, training and maintenance. IIT Madras will analyze and formulate new policies to reduce road accidents.” Under the IRAD project, this program will be used through a mobile app.
However, only the mobile app will have to be used for recording the data at the road accident site. With this project, the Government of India aims to control road accidents and provide timely treatment to the injured.
