Rajya Sabha elections are over and BJP has defeated Congress in Maharashtra and Haryana. So in Rajasthan, BJP’s bet failed and Congress won 3 seats. Presidential elections are going to be held in the month of July and then there will be two hands each in the opposition and the government. A debate was going on on a news channel regarding this issue and political analysts and BJP spokesperson were also present in the debate.
During the debate, BJP spokesperson KK Sharma took a dig at the unity of the opposition. “Since 2014, the opposition has made several attempts to show unity. Strong opposition is essential in a democracy. In the last 8 years, we have seen opposition unity. They are trapped in a net like a crab. When one rises up, the other pulls the leg down and lowers it. The figures for the presidential election are in our favor.*
Political analyst Abhay Kumar Dubey was also present during the debate. He said, “The level of opposition unity in the last 8 years has been very disappointing. Where opposition unity should have been, it has not been seen there. Had there been opposition unity, the election results would have been different. The Presidential election rests solely on the management. Opposition unity is nil right now. For the presidential election, BJP will manage votes with saam, daam, dand, bhed.
Political analyst Abhay Dubey further said, “BJP has less votes for the presidential election but I think it will manage till the election. The BJP has mostly defeated the Congress when it comes to vote management. Barring Gujarat’s Rajya Sabha elections (Ahmed Patel’s election) and the recent Rajasthan elections, the BJP has outperformed the Congress. The opposition has forgotten the tactic of sam, daam, dand, difference. The election of the President is of a different kind. Political management is necessary in this.”
The dates for the presidential election have been announced. Presidential elections will be held on 18 July and results will be declared on 21 July. June 29 is the last day for nominations for the presidential election. Sonia Gandhi has given Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge the responsibility of coordinating with the opposition leaders. So at the same time, Mamta Banerjee has also called a meeting of opposition leaders in Delhi, in which the presidential candidate will be discussed.
