Voting for the President’s post will be held on July 18 and the results will be out on July 21. Aam Aadmi Party’s PAC meeting was held in Delhi on Saturday and it was decided in the meeting that the party will support the opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha. Giving information about this, Sanjay Singh said that the party has decided that it will support Yashwant Sinha in the presidential election.
A senior Aam Aadmi Party leader told The Indian Express that the party will contest the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat this year and the Aam Aadmi Party is accused of being the B-team of the BJP. Therefore, this allegation of Congress will no longer have any meaning.
Aam Aadmi Party also knows the importance of BJP and NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu and they know what message it is sending. Therefore, while announcing the support of Yashwant Sinha, Sanjay Singh also mentioned this. Sanjay Singh said, “We also respect BJP candidate Draupadi Murmu, but in the election we will support the opposition’s presidential face.”
Apart from the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party is the only party in the opposition camp which has government in more than one state. In Delhi and Punjab, the ruling party AAP has about 1.96 per cent votes in the President’s Electoral College. The value of votes of 10 Rajya Sabha MPs of the party is 7,000, while the value of votes of MLAs from Delhi (62), Punjab (92) and Goa (2) is 14,308.
Aam Aadmi Party wants to ensure that Yashwant Sinha gets around 4 lakh votes while they also know that Draupadi Murmu can get more than 6 lakh 60 thousand votes comfortably. In the last presidential election too, just 3 days before the voting, the Aam Aadmi Party had announced the support of the opposition candidate Meira Kumar.
With this move, the Aam Aadmi Party has tried to send a political message that it is different from others. However, the Aam Aadmi Party did not participate in any meeting of the opposition for the post of President. Ahead of the joint meeting of the opposition, senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh met Sharad Pawar in Mumbai.
