Actor Naseeruddin Shah on Nupur Sharma, who was the spokesperson of BJP, said that what the Indian government did was very little and what it did, it did it too late. He said that the people in top positions in India remained silent. He did not take into account the sentiments of those who were hurt.
Naseer told NDTV that if such a statement had been made in an Islamic country, then the person making the statement would have got the death penalty. There it was considered blasphemy. But the Government of India and the BJP remained silent for a long time. If she had taken action on Nupur immediately after the statement, then this ruckus would not have arisen. The silence of the government seems incomprehensible. Naseer said that if a Muslim talks about his rights, then he is targeted. After all, why don’t we see everyone as an Indian?
He said that Nupur Sharma was not a fringe element but she was the national spokesperson of the party. He does not think that Nupur has said this with the approval of the top leadership. On the contrary, she is also saying that derogatory remarks are also made on Hindu deities. The actor said that he is challenged if he is shown a video clip in which a Muslim is making derogatory remarks on Hindu deities. He said that he hopes that PM Modi will do the work of silencing such haters.
He said that PM Modi wants that if this poison of communalism does not spread, then he himself will have to come forward. Only Modi can rein in such people. These people will not come under the control of any other leader in BJP. But for this the PM will have to take the initiative on his own behalf. Once they show a tough attitude, such elements will automatically calm down.
Nupur Sharma made objectionable remarks about Prophet Mohammad during a TV debate. Violence broke out in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh only after that. Violence is being linked to his statement. After this, many Islamic countries expressed their displeasure over this. Many countries had expressed their objection by calling Indian ambassadors. BJP suspended Nupur Sharma from the party. But this decision was delayed.
